Strong resume action verbs, by category

Last updated May 31, 2026

Every bullet should open with a verb that does work. "Responsible for" and "Helped with" are dead weight; strong action verbs make you the agent of a result. Pick the verb that's *true* - don't claim you "led" what you "supported".

Leadership & ownership

Led, Directed, Owned, Drove, Spearheaded, Coordinated, Oversaw, Mentored, Championed.

Building & creating

Built, Designed, Developed, Launched, Shipped, Created, Engineered, Architected, Implemented, Established.

Growth & results

Grew, Increased, Boosted, Generated, Accelerated, Expanded, Doubled, Scaled, Won, Closed.

Efficiency & improvement

Cut, Reduced, Streamlined, Automated, Optimized, Simplified, Consolidated, Eliminated, Standardized.

Analysis & problem-solving

Analyzed, Diagnosed, Investigated, Modeled, Forecasted, Researched, Identified, Resolved, Tested.

Use them honestly
Strong verbs only help if they're accurate. "Spearheaded" a project you contributed to will fall apart in an interview - match the verb to your real role.
